Bhaktivedanta Manor urges more support for Nepal’s earthquake victims (15th May 2015 update)
Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple is calling for more support to help the victims of the Nepal earthquake after another major earthquake struck the region, two weeks after more than 8,000 people died after the first quake.
The Manor launched an appeal to raise funds to support victims of the earthquake through the Temple’s welfare arm, The Lotus Trust, which has been supporting the Food for Life programme in Nepal since the first earthquake.
So far, the Food for Life programme in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur have served over 40,000 plates of hot prasadam in shelters and hospitals. In addition, devotees from local ISKCON centres have been transporting and providing water from the temple to these places where the government has not yet delivered relief.
In addition, ISKCON has provided fifteen doctors from Bhaktivedanta Hospital in Mumbai, who are setting up health camps with local doctors, and devotees are also supporting the development of accommodations for those that have lost their homes.
Already, the appeal has generated over £15,000 in donations, however more is needed to help Food for Life continue its vital work providing food and medical relief, and to help in rebuilding homes if funds allow.
